Black and White Cabs, a taxi and ride-sharing company in Australia, has been the victim of a cyber attack. The company has identified the CryptoLocker virus as the culprit, and reported the attack to the Australian Cyber Security Centre. The company has urged customers to be aware that it is currently conducting a forensic investigation and taking appropriate steps to protect customer information. Nigel Phair, a professor of cybersecurity at Monash University, has warned that the hackers likely gained access through a phishing attack and followed up with a ransomware demand. Professor Phair advised companies to be aware of the risks involved in being online and take appropriate measures to protect themselves from attacks.
